Day 15 part 2 : Market Research - Focus Group

This video is of all the questions I asked my focus group, the questions below are the questions I view as the most important in the way it can help me with the creation of my magazine.

  • In terms of the front cover and its image, do you think it meets the genre of music or another genre ? < This question is important because it made me realize that the image, should give off the genre of the magazine as soon as you look at it. As you can see in the video Catherine said "Rap definitely you got this hoodlum on the front" and Adoliena said "Hes got sunglasses on", which shows that their first impressions of Tynchy Stryder was what he looked and and what he was wearing. So with my magazine I understand that the model for my front cover has to give of strong Rap music vibe with what they wear and how they look, for my magazine to be successful.
  • At first glance who do you think this magazine is aimed at in terms of sex and age ? < This question made me realize that Rap magazines don't necessarily have to be just for men, and that it can be aimed at women and men in todays male dominated industry. In my focus group they thought it could be aimed at everyone and that, "It depends if you like the rapper or not" because just like how I found out from my survey, some people buy magazines just because their favorite celebrity is on the front cover.
  • How would you feel if a women on a magazine wore clothes like a male typical rapper, if so would you prefer it ? < Since I'm aiming my magazine towards women, I wanted to see what would be the response if a woman was dressed the same as a man. As you can see Catherine thought that "It wouldn't look appropriate because sex sells", however with my magazine I want to prove that in a Rap magazine women don't always have to be half naked to capture your attention.
  • How does the use of colours on the front cover, relate to the genre of music ? < In magazines colour is really important, especially if you want to reinforce a genre of music. The focus group made me realize that I will have to use colours, that give off connotations of the Rap genre. Catherine said the colour scheme looked "Proper hardcore and bold" with the yellow, blue and black. The colours are very urban and relate to the genre, I will take this into consideration when deciding the colours of my magazine.
